Bio

Lauren Wood is a senior technical program manager at Sun Microsystems, concentrating on projects involving identity and privacy in the web world. She chairs the Business Marketing Expert Group for the Liberty Alliance. She has been on the organizing committee for Vancouver's blogging conference, Northern Voice, since its inception.

Lauren chaired IDEAlliance's XML conference series in the US from 2001-2005, steering the conference successfully through the downturn in technology and cementing it as the premier technical conference in its area.

Lauren has served on and chaired many technical and advisory committees for standards organizations including OASIS, W3C, IETF and the Liberty Alliance. She has been on W3C's Advisory Board (an elected position) and Advisory Committee, and chaired the W3C Document Object Model Working Group from its inception through to the successful publication of Level 2. She has worked as an independent consultant, is a published industry analyst, and was Director of Product Technology for SoftQuad Software (now part of Justsystem Inc).

Lauren holds a Ph.D. in theoretical nuclear physics from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and spent two years in Berlin, Germany, as a post-doctoral fellow at the Hahn-Meitner Institute.
